Pioneering Agri-food Political Dialogue

Hosted at Celler Art Laietà, this first-ever political gathering – beyond technical exchanges - provided a valuable space for institutional dialogue and cooperation on interregional agri-food sector challenges. High-level representatives from Catalonia, Lombardy, Baden-Württemberg and Auvernge-Rhônes-Alpes deepened political debate through priority exchanges and key agreements. The gathering also served to v review progress in thematic sessions, joint position papers on the post-2027 CAP and generational renewal.

In a context of profound European transformations—technological, environmental, economic, and geopolitical—the Working Group on Sustainable Agri-food Systems of the Four Motors has committed to strengthening their cooperation to actively contribute to the future of the European project, particularly on issues related to generational renewal in agriculture, the recognition and the promotion of the farming profession, food security in Europe in a context of geopolitical instability, and the link between agriculture and environment. With this aim, high-level officials propelled a strategic joint action plan, align efforts, and generate joint initiatives delivering genuine added value at the European level. This plan addresses the need for more strategic and structured cooperation in the coming years, serving as a flexible roadmap to bolster competitiveness, sustainability, and social cohesion in the agri-food sector while ensuring these regions maintain a pivotal role in building a more resilient and inclusive Europe.

Today's agreements focused on consolidating the political forum by maintaining this institutional exchange space through biannual meetings to reinforce established relationships and laying out current and future cooperation proposals. By institutionalising this high-level dialogue, the 4 Motors solidify their role as a unified voice addressing shared agri-food challenges at the European level.

Political representatives kicked off with a tour of the IRTA Torre Marimon research centre before wrapping up with a technical visit to Alella's iconic winery.
