4 Motors of Europe demonstrate strong support for AREPO in Barcelona on October 22 & 23, 2025

The recent general assembly of AREPO (Association of European Regions for Products of Origin), held at the Institut d’Estudis Catalans in Barcelona on October 22 & 23, 2025, showcased the united support of the 4 Motors of Europe—Catalonia, Lombardy, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, and Baden-Württemberg— in advancing the interests of quality agri-food products with designation of origin across Europe. These dynamic regions reaffirmed their commitment to AREPO’s mission of championing regional, traditional, and high-quality agricultural practices within EU policy frameworks.

The event underscored the active leadership of AREPO’s president, Alessandro Beduschi, Regional Minister for Agriculture, Food Sovereignty and Forestry of Lombardy, alongside the other regions of the 4 Motors of Europe, in promoting regional priorities on the European stage.

Rosa Cubel, Food Secretary of the Government of Catalonia, and host of the assembly, emphasised that Catalonia is a land of both productive tradition and innovation, internationally recognised for its products protected by Geographical Indication (GI) and Designation of Origin (DO), honoured this year as World Region of Gastronomy.

The assembly brought together regional representatives, policy experts, and stakeholders from across Europe. The thematic sessions explored EU policy updates, regional quality schemes, and future promotional initiatives, while technical visits showcased Catalonia’s agricultural excellence through protected designations. The Assembly served as a timely opportunity for critical debates on the multiannual EU budget and future agri-food policy, updates on the GI SMART project, opportunities to visit and taste Catalan DO products, and to build coordinated proposals aiming to strengthen the region’s role and influence in EU policy making, especially within the next CAP. This collaborative momentum demonstrates that AREPO, with support from the 4 Motors for Europe, is setting a benchmark for defending territories at EU level, and securing a strong future for local products within EU policies.

The 4 Motors of Europe being part of AREPO highlights the importance of regional cooperation and shared strategies for safeguarding Europe’s rich agricultural and gastronomic heritage, voicing producers’ regional needs, and defending models rooted in proximity and quality.
