Four Motors for Europe launch the elaboration of their 2026–2030 Strategic Roadmap under the Catalan Presidency
The document currently being developed is inspired by the Programme of Work of the Catalan Presidency of the Four Motors for Europe, which in turn drew inspiration from the European Commission’s Competitiveness Compass. This continuity aims to provide the network with a coherent long-term vision, aligning regional cooperation with Europe’s strategic priorities on competitiveness, innovation and cohesion.
The Strategic Roadmap will define the main objectives and flagship initiatives of the network for 2026–2030, while identifying cross-cutting themes that connect the work of the six thematic groups — Economy; Electric and Hydrogen Mobility; Research and Higher Education; Environment; Sustainable Food Systems; and Labour Mobility and Professional Training. Its purpose is to streamline collaboration, strengthen synergies among groups, and reinforce the collective voice of the Four Motors within the European debate.
The meeting in Brussels marked the official start of the drafting process. It began with a joint plenary session, where the Catalan Presidency presented the objectives, structure and timeline of the Roadmap. Participants discussed how to translate the network’s political vision into a concrete strategy capable of ensuring continuity beyond rotating presidencies.
During the parallel sessions, each working group met independently to outline its priorities and discuss potential areas of cooperation for the coming years. The exchanges helped to identify common challenges and emerging opportunities for interregional projects.
In the closing session, representatives reconvened to share conclusions and reflections. The discussion underlined several transversal issues — including hydrogen, innovation, digitalisation and talent development — that will require coordinated work across multiple groups in the next phase of drafting.
The meeting was seen as a key milestone for the network, reaffirming the commitment of the Four Motors for Europe to act as a united and forward-looking alliance of regions, shaping Europe’s future through cooperation, innovation and shared purpose.
The final version of the Roadmap will be presented in spring2026, during the handover of the Catalan Presidency to Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes.
