The Four Motors for Europe at the Frankfurter Buchmesse 2024
In the framework of the Frankfurter Buchmesse – the largest book fair in the world and an international model for cultural events – The Four Motors for Europe network remarked its commitment to enhance the cooperation and the exchange of best practices in the cultural sector.
As foreseen in the Lombardy Presidency Program, the evolution of libraries and library networks is a relevant topic for the Four Motors regions. In this view, industry experts and technical representatives from Baden-Württemberg and Catalunya participated in the panel “Community of Readers: policies for dissemination and promotion of books”, led by the Lombardy Minister for Culture, Francesca Caruso.
During the panel, the floor was given to Tom Erben, Director General of the German Publishers and Booksellers Association of Baden-Württemberg, and Edgar Garcia, Director of the Catalan Institute for the Cultural Enterprises, who shared their experiences on reading promotion and editorial initiatives in their regions. The panel also featured interventions by Italian cultural stakeholders and closing remarks by Mauro Mazza, Extraordinary Commissioner of the Italian Government for the Guest of Honour appearance at the fair.
Following the panel, Minister Caruso also had the opportunity to take part in the opening of the Catalan stand and meet the Catalan Councillor for Culture, Sònia Hernández Almodóvar.
