The Four Motors heat up Berlin summer party

For 55 years the State Representation of Baden-Württemberg in Berlin has been celebrating the traditional “Stallwächterparty” with about 1.500 guests from politics, economy and culture. Cultural highlights from the Four Motors for Europe contributed to the success of this year’s edition under the motto “Baden-Württemberg at the heart of Europe”.

A party without friends is no party. This is why, the Four Motors for Europe couldn’t be missing at this year’s edition of Baden-Württemberg’s traditional summer party “Stallwächterparty” on June 27, 2019. The motto of the 2019 party has been “Baden-Württemberg at the heart of Europe”. Baden-Württemberg’s European partners Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, Catalonia and Lombardy thus sent their cultural and culinary specialties to Berlin.

Special guest of the party has been singer Álvaro (Tauchert) Soler. His song “el mismo sol” immediately reached the top of the Italian charts after its release. While the 1.500 guests of the party enjoyed his pop-songs, temperature might have made some of them think of his place of birth Barcelona rather than Berlin. Among the guests were prominent personalities from politics such as minister-president Winfried Kretschmann (Baden-Württemberg) or Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer (leader of the German Christian Democratic Union), economy and culture. Moreover, many international guests attended the event, for instance representatives from 23 embassies of member states of the European Union.

The Four Motors for Europe are abundant in culinary highlights. More than 100 products from the four regions are designed as Protected Designation of Origins (PDO) and Protected Geographical Indications (PGI). Wine isn’t even counted in this number yet. The guests of the summer party could taste many of the typical products and dishes from the partner regions. They could for instance choose between raclette from Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, tomato bread and arrossada (paella) from Catalonia or Ossobuco alla milanese. Pictures and videos from Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, Catalonia and Lombardy also conveyed the authentic flair of the partner regions.

In 1964, when the State Representation was located in Bonn, the remaining employees had the idea to host a party during the summer break. The German word “Stallwache” translated freely means keeping watch. This is why the party has been named “Stallwächterparty”. Today the party has developed into an institution of its own with more than 1.500 high-level guests. Not least thanks to the support from the partner regions of the Four Motors for Europe the motto “Baden-Württemberg - at the heart of Europe” has been filled with life. Considering this year’s rich cultural and culinary programme the party has fully lived up to the tradition of the event.
