2018 is the right time to put a spotlight on cultural heritage in Europe. Why? First of all, the Four Motors for Europe turn 30. Second, 2018 is the European Cultural Heritage Year (#EuropeForCulture). This year invites people to explore Europe’s diverse and rich culture and to foster a common sense of belonging. Throughout the year multiple events centered around cultural heritage will take place in all Member States. Cultural heritage is omnipresent in the Four Motors for Europe with its rich numbers of outstanding buildings, its various natural landscapes and archaeological sites.
The slogan of the European Cultural Year 2018 “Our heritage: where the past meets the future” describes a school project, already running in the Four Motors, extremely well: the intercultural blended-learning project “Four Motors online”. Students of five vocational upper secondary schools from Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, Baden-Wüttembergand Lombardy as well as students of five general (upper) secondary schools from Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, Baden-Württemberg, Catalonia and Lombardy explore collaboratively cultural heritage of the four motor regions by using the online platform eTwinning (this online platform is part of the EU programme ERASMUS+; www.etwinning.net).
As this years’ European Competition (Europäischer Wettbewerb) – a German school competition on European topics – focuses on the European Year of Cultural Heritage participating schools from Baden-Württemberg may also take part in this competition with their project activities. Moreover, the participants will be given the opportunity to take part in the Four-Motor-Project-Days from May 2 to May 4 2018 in Stuttgart. For those eager to find out more on the insights gained within the project: some of the results will be presented at a big cultural and political event called Europaaktionstag (“European Action Day”) in Stuttgart on May 4, 2018.
