These EU-labels are used to brand regional products. The conservation of the unique and rich European regional food culture is a goal that unites the Four Motors for Europe.
To this aim, the Four Motors for Europe have agreed on a common position on strengthening EUquality policy in the context of the Common agricultural policy. A strong and effective EUquality policy will enable the EU to preserve typical and traditional regional food. Europe and particularly the four regions are abundant of such regionally rooted specialties.
This years’ Genussgipfel in the baroque castle of Mannheim invited the around 250 guests to discover the regional flavors and tastes of the four gourmet regions. The Genussgipfel is an annual format on food culture in the context of ecological, social and economic responsibility in Baden-Württemberg. Regional exhibitors from Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, Baden-Württemberg, Catalonia and Lombardy presented many of their traditional products. Sitting around one table, drinking, eating, laughing and chatting together is probably the easiest way to get to know each other. When thinking about what defines our European regions, food is one of the first elements we might have entered into contact with. Thus, food culture is an aspect of the European integration that should not be neglected.
Not solely the excellent food and animated conference invited the guests to discover European culture. The baroque castle of Mannheim is an excellent example of the culture at European courts. Mannheim, the city where the spaghetti ice cream was invented by a citizen of Italian decent, has equally been the perfect location to host this type of event.
